Tom Brady

Quarterback, Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Episode summary
LEADING with performance.

Tom Brady, quarterback for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, leads with Performance. Coming to Tampa Bay after winning his last Super Bowl with the New England Patriots in 2019, Tom was excited to learn how to play football with a new team. He learned that no one wanted to hear him say, ‘here’s how the Patriots did this,’ and so he focused on building trust with his teammates, working together to build a new playbook together. Clear, current communication, or CCC as Tom calls it, is essential to getting 11 players on the same page, and Tom had to do that in the context of COVID-19 distance and separation guidelines. After losing his first game with the Bucs to the New Orleans Saints, Tom realized just how much work lay ahead of him and the team he led on the field. Working hard was only part of the challenge, because activity is not the same as achievement.

How do you push past fear?

“Football is a simple game, but it's hard to get 11 people on the same page, every single play.”

“I can only be great if the other guys around me are great.”

“Criticizing without a solution is just essentially complaining.”
